Remember when I said I gathered with my daughters + their friends to make a gift guide for teens? I took advantage of this time and picked their brain about what it’s like shopping for their parents + loved ones during the holidays. The common response, “our parents have everything and only want expensive stuff.” I can strongly relate to this as I know many of you can too. When I was growing up and started making my own money, shopping for my parents was always so hard. I would buy something and then return it because I was so doubtful in my decision and only wanted to give them the best gift ever. Now that I’m a parent myself, I realize they probably never really cared about the physical gift as much as they cared about the thoughtful gesture.
“It’s not the gift, but the thought that counts.” Paul van Dyk
The holidays can come with so much pressure alongside all of the fun. Some families have resorted to gift cards charged with a specific amount just to make life easy. If you ask me, even though, I’ve enjoyed my fair share of gift cards in my lifetime, I don’t think there is any thought behind it. I understand if you’re busy or maybe you’re at your limit with shopping around, a gift card sounds like the perfect gift. Yes, I’m guilty of doing this myself. I reality I’d much rather buy a gift that I know that person will enjoy.
When I started on this gift guide for parents who have everything, there was a point where I thought I took on too much. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. There are so many personalities + tastes to keep in mind and not to mention keeping it at an affordable price point. I powered through and I think I did a good job of making this guide affordable, practical, tasteful, and fun. It would be nice to hear what you think…comment below, please.
