Finally, I have uploaded the long-awaited post everyone has been asking about. I wasn’t sure exactly when I was going to be finished with this project. What seemed to be a simple, over the weekend ordeal turned into three weeks. Thank goodness I love home decor projects, especially, since it involved a two hour trip to IKEA. Who doesn’t love IKEA? That place is filled with so many cool ideas for just about any space.
My home is an old home built in the 1970’s. It has the original 8 ft ceilings and the rooms aren’t huge at all. I like it that way because it’s less to keep up with + easy to decorate. I would also say that the majority of our home is decorated with an eclectic style. Some things are modern…some things are traditional…we have some beautiful color…we have a lot of neutrals.
We started the discussions of redecorating Erica’s room because I did the same thing with Jasmine’s room when she was transitioning into high school. Erica, of course, remembered all of this. Now that she is in her last few months of 8th grade – she definitely hit me up with the big question, “can we re-do my room?” I love decorating and using new ideas that I’ve learned so I was up for the fun challenge.
The plan didn’t come as easy as it does with other makeovers around the house. At this point, I thought it would be a great idea to sit down with my daughter and brainstorm. One thing I realized early on in the game was Erica’s taste. Have you ever heard the saying, “champagne taste on a beer budget?” Well, that explains our brainstorming session perfectly.
The inspiration for this room was the color ash veneer. Other than that, she was open to my suggestions and purchases as long as they meshed well together. This isn’t always easy. To work with Erica isn’t always easy. As she is very picky and the girl knows what she wants.
When you start to mix colors, textures, and elements it can become tricky. It took all of my energy and creative juices and let’s just say I shopped all over Fort Myers and online stores until I dropped. All in all, Erica is super duper happy with the outcome and loves her room so much. This is important because this is where she spends most of her time. I am also honored that she trusts me with her ideas and knows I won’t let her down. I happen to love her room too. Enjoy some after photos included below. #proudmommoments
