Ever get that frustrated feeling when you look at all of your beauty products laying around everywhere? What about when you are trying to look for that special mascara or lipstick and just don’t know where you put it last? Yes, I’ve been there too. That is why I came up with a simple solution – getting organized. Not to mention, a very cost effective way to get organized. Most beauty gurus or people in general spend lots of money buying acrylic organizational tools that will indeed get the job done. On the down side, 5 drawer acrylic case retails for $27.95 at Muji. That’s great if you absolutely have to have clear, acrylic drawers. In my case, I just wanted everything to have a home in a stylish sort of way. Out of the way, off of my desk, and organized.
First off, I have to start off with my makeup brushes. As you can see there are many brushes that I own at the moment. This isn’t all of them. I have a clear glass jar (bought at Wal-mart – $2.99) that I keep on my desk for my “used” brushes. This helps remind me of which brushes I need to clean, etc… It changes every week. The vases down below I purchased at Michael’s on clearance for $3.00 each. I also bought the poly fill there – $8. I just bought one bag and that was plenty to fill all three vases. What I love about this organization idea is the simplicity, I can visually see all my brushes, and it looks neat. If you look closely, I used my P-Touch label maker to label each vase. My brushes are from Real Techniques, Sigma Beauty, MAC, Stila, Tarte, Sephora, and It Cosmetics.
Here are some pretty awesome boxes/crate that make great tools for organizing anything. What I like about this idea is the fact that the boxes help keep things pretty and hidden. With this idea I used the P-Touch to label the inside of the lid so it can give me a brief reminder of what is in that certain box.
The crate at the very top (Michael’s $9.00) is my misc box where I keep things that I need to be put away when I get the time. What can I say, sometimes life is so busy I don’t have the time. I usually get to this on the weekends for sure. As I always like to start my week feeling ready. The middle box (Home Goods $7.00) holds hair tools like curling wands, my straightener, and brushes. The very bottom box (Home Goods $6) is a home to hair color tools such as: mixing bowls, developer, extra hair color from Sally’s Beauty Supply; and gloves, etc…
In the boxes above, I keep all of my eyeshadow palettes, and individual eyeshadows & pigments. I love that they are all contained beautifully.
I have been really enjoying the convenience of the Lazy Susan. It helps organize my foundation & fragrances very well. I specifically love that it turns so I can easily see what my options are. I bought both of these at Wal-Mart for $9.99, I also loved that it came in white because it is the color I am going with in my office.
The jar (above) is a recycled candle from Bath & Body Works (I usually go for the sale 2 for $22). I do this with all my candles and place them all around my home for pens, misc gadgets, and spices (make sure to keep the lid as it keeps the air out). This one keeps all of my roller ball and travel spray fragrances. I have to say the glass a little delicate, but if you apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the inside it makes it a bit more durable.
This is how I organize the rest of my makeup. I purchased these plastic drawers at Wal-Mart $5.00 each. I used my P-Touch label maker to categorize each drawer. This way I know exactly what is what, and where is where. This has been EXTREMELY helpful. I also have created a system, when the drawer gets full and I am unable to close it – it’s time to give, toss, or exchange those products. This is actually the fun part.
I bought my P-Touch label maker at my local Office Depot $25.00. It has come in handy with many projects around the home. Definitely worth the investment. It comes with a roll of label tape but you can purchase extras for $5.00-$10.00. Depending on the style or type of label tape you are looking for.
Below is a picture of the whole bookcase. I really like the way everything is stored away and easy to locate. Especially, if you are anything like me with busy lifestyle. I have also noticed that my desk stays clutter free. Love, love, love….
On the bookcase (Ikea), I purchased the lamp at Home Goods $30.00; The picture of the heel above was bought at T.J. Maxx $12.00; all of the frames were bought at Home Goods $3.99-$10.00. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will be posting a whole office tour one day soon. Keep your eyeballs posted for that.
